Charter and Objective

The Information Governance Committee charter
Objective: In order to meet the diverse academic and administrative needs of the University community, the Information Governance Committee will provide guidance and recommendations that address strategic issues across three broad domains: information access and security, descriptive institutional metrics and data fields, and business intelligence functions that support data driven decision making. The IGC will also work to maximize value from Notre Dame’s information and analytic resources, minimize inefficiencies, and responsibly balance the trade-offs between data access and privacy.

Meeting Schedule

The Information Governance Committee meets in February, April, September and November.

Key Initiatives

Quarterly Updates

January - March 2024

  • Discussed Student, Faculty, and Staff ID Photo Governance and approved sensitivity and access classifications.
  • Discussed gender data guidelines and practices - where they are captured, where they are stored, how they are used, and what language/options should be used. Decided to form a small working group to dive deeper into this topic.
  • Provided updates on previously approved IGC projects: Implementing the new "Restricted" data classification, the Online Photo application replacement project, moving the Research Data Warehouse to the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Sensitive Data Handling Training, and the Affiliate Access Improvement Working Group.

October - December 2023

  • Discussed the proposed "Restricted" access designation. Decided to implement and integrate it into the dataND/EDW security model.
  • Discussed dataND project prioritization and established the next 4 priorities to address.
  • Discussed the need for a working group to discuss NetID account access and to work on a matrix of what these access entitlements should look like.
