Cable Television in Campus Graduate Housing

In an effort to expand services to graduate students living in on-campus graduate housing, the University has reached an agreement with Comcast to activate one cable television outlet in each apartment unit in Fischer Graduate, O'Hara-Grace, University Village and Cripe Street. The project includes activating existing cable television outlets on the Notre Dame lineup, however there is some minor construction work to complete before that occurs. In the meantime, all outlets will receive programming from the South Bend/Mishawaka lineup. When construction work has finished, students may order digital services, for an additional fee, from Comcast. In addition, Nomad wireless LAN is also being installed in the graduate complexes.

A summary of the goals associated with the Graduate Cable TV Project:

- Enable graduate students to take advantage of programming inserted by Notre Dame.

- Add the ND Emergency cable TV override capability to graduate housing, as part of the campus emergency alert program.

- Augment existing communication methods to graduates, using the Barker Information channel, located on channel 2 of the Notre Dame Cable TV system.

- Simplify support processes for graduate student cable subscribers.

Graduate Cable TV Project update -

10/07/2008 - Tap value replacement completed at Fischer Graduate and O'Hara-Grace to adjust levels. Feed cable replaced at University Village.

9/23/2008 - Cutover of all cable outlets and activation on ND channel lineup completed at Fischer Graduate and O'Hara-Grace.

9/17/2008 - Rolling outage, cutover and activation on ND channel lineup scheduled for Tuesday 9/23/2008 for Fischer Graduate and O'Hara-Grace.

9/16/2008 - Cutover of all cable outlets and activation on ND channel lineup completed at University Village. Community Centers to be activated on 9/17/2008.

9/12/2006 - Rolling outage, cutover and activation on ND channel lineup scheduled for Tuesday 9/16/2008 for University Village and Cripe Street.

9/03/2008 - 'Tone and Tag' completed at University Village.

8/29/2008 - ND channel lineups delivered to University Village/Cripe Street.

8/21/2008 - Outside construction and splicing completed at University Village and Cripe Street Apartments.

8/20/2008 - Fiber optic nodes installed, configured and operational for all complexes.

8/14/2008 - Temporary channel lineups delivered to Fischer Graduate/O'Hara-Grace.

8/13/2008 - Temporary channel lineups delivered to University Village/Cripe Street.

8/11/2008 - Project status communication regarding support sent to graduate housing administrators.

7/31/2008 - All outlets in Cripe Street Apartments have been activated on South Bend/Mishawaka lineup.

7/30/2008 - Project status communication sent to graduate housing administrators.

7/25/2008 - All outlets in Fischer Graduate, O'Hara-Grace and University Village have been activated on South Bend/Mishawaka lineup. Cripe Street Apartments will follow.

7/18/2008 - Purchase Orders have been released to Comcast.

6/16/2008 - Construction contract signed.

5/22/2008 - Project funding approved.

4/15/2008 - Final Scope of Work (SOW) submitted to Comcast.
