Upgrade to Mac OS 9 Eudora v. 6 for IMAP Email

Please note: Qualcomm has stopped development and significantly limited support for Eudora.

NOTE: In order to ensure that Eudora is setup for SSL and SMTP Authentication, you MUST follow these instructions EXACTLY!

Upgrade to Eudora 6

1. Double-click on the Eudora 6 Updater. (You will need to sign in with your NetID and password in order to download the compressed installer file.)
2. Click the Continue button.
   
3. Click Continue again after reading the instructions.
4. Click Install on the next window.
   
   Note: If you are asked which Eudora Settings file to use during the install, please click Cancel to quit the installation and do the following:

• Go to File and then Find.
• Do a search for: Eudora Settings
• Look in the Date Modified column and choose the Eudora Settings file that has the most recent date, this is the one you last used.
• Look in the bottom part of the window and see where the file is found.
  
• Repeat steps 1 through 3 from above.
• When asked which Eudora Settings file to use, using the bottom part of the window tell where they are located, choose the one that is in the same location of the file you just found that was most recently modified.
• Click Select.

5. Click Quit in the window saying the installation was successful.

Eudora 6 is now installed. Now continue with the instructions below to configure Eudora.

Configuring Eudora 6

1. Open Eudora.
   
2. Go to the Special menu and click Settings.
3. In the Getting Started category enter the following information:
   • Username: Your NetID (e.g., asmith)
   • Real Name: Your First and Last Name (e.g., Anne Smith)
   • Return Address: The preferred version of your e-mail address (e.g., asmith@nd.edu)
4. Click OK.
5. Go to the File menu and click Check Mail.
6. Enter the password for your account when asked and click OK.
7. The first time you check mail you will see a warning about an Unknown SSL Certificate, click Open.
   
8. You will now be asked if you want to Add a certificate for imap.nd.edu, click OK.
9. Click Done on the certificate window that comes up, and then close the Keychain window.
10. Eudora should come back up, go back up to the File menu and click Check Mail. All your new mail should now arrive.
    
11. Now go to the Message menu and choose New Message. Compose a test message to yourself.
12. Click Send.
13. Like the first time you checked for mail, you will be warned about an Unknown SSL Certificate. Click Open, then click OK when asked to add the certificate for smtp.nd.edu.
14. Click Done on the certificate window and close the Keychain window to return to Eudora.
15. Close any error messages that might have appeared.
16. Go back to the File menu and click Check Mail again to force Eudora to send the test message.
17. Wait a few seconds and Check Mail again to see if you received the test message.

Eudora is now set up to securely your login information to send and receive mail and is already configured to work with the ND Directory Service.
