Setup Thunderbird v. 1.0 for IMAP Email
- Go to the Tools menu and select Account Settings.
- Click the Add Account button.
- Choose the Email Account radio button. Click Next.
- Fill in your name as you would like it to appear (e.g., Anne Smith).
- Fill in your Notre Dame email address (e.g., asmith2@nd.edu). Then click Next.
- Choose the IMAP radio button.
- The Incoming Server name is: imap.nd.edu
- Click Next.
- The Incoming username is your NetID (e.g., asmith2).
- Click Next.
- Enter a name of your account (e.g., ND Email or asmith2@nd.edu).
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Go to the Tools menu again and select Account Settings.
- Under the account you just created, click Server Settings.
- On the right side of the dialog, be sure that Use Secure Connection (SSL) is CHECKED.
- From the categories on the left, click Outgoing Server (SMTP).
- On the right side of the dialog, be sure that the Server Name is: smtp.nd.edu
- The Port should be set to: 587
- Be sure that Use name and password is CHECKED.
- The Username is your NetID (e.g., asmith2).
- Under Use Secure Connection, select the radio button for TLS.
- Click OK.
Now you can receive and send email through your Notre Dame email account from anywhere.
Setting Up the Notre Dame Directory
- Go to the Tools menu, and select Options.
- Under your Notre Dame account on the left, select Composition & Addressing.
- On the right side of the dialog, select the radio button for Use Different LDAP server.
- The click the Edit Directories button.
- Then click the Add.
- Fill in the following information:
- Name: Notre Dame
- Hostname: directory.nd.edu
- Base DN: o="University of Notre Dame",st=Indiana,c=US

- Click OK. Click OK again. Then click OK one more time.
The ND Directory is now available for you to find email addresses.
