Warning Message For Users of Non-Secure IMAP & POP
Beginning 11/9/06, a daily message similar to the sample below will be sent to users who have accessed email using an unsecured POP or IMAP connection in the previous 24 hours.
Because the messages are based on a 24 hour period, once the correct settings have been applied one subsequent message will likely be received for the connection made in that same day, but prior to correcting the account.
If you receive this email 2 days after making the
change, that would indicate you have not been successful in making the
changes, OR that you have accessed email from a different system or
email client that also needs adjustment. In those situations, contact your departmental IT staff or the OIT Help Desk (631-8111) to assist you in determining which IP # the
connection(s) came from.

*** You are receiving this message because you are checking your central Notre
Dame email using an unsecured POP or IMAP connection. ***
In January 2007, Notre Dame will *require* the use of secure connections when
sending and receiving email to protect your password and increase the security
of all users of the central Notre Dame email service.
Please configure your email client to use secure connections now! Instructions
on how to setup OIT supported email clients to use secure connections are
available on the web at: <http://oit.nd.edu/email/setup.shtml>.
Be sure to verify that your email client is configured correctly on ALL devices
you use to check Notre Dame email -- including home computers, laptops, PDAs
(e.g., Palm, Pocket PC, Blackberry), etc.
If you do not configure your email client to use secure connections, you will be
unable to access your Notre Dame account in January 2007! Please note: no email
will be lost as a result of this change; it will only require that you use a
secure connection to send and receive email.
If you need assistance configuring your email client, please contact your
departmental IT support staff or the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.
