Connecting Microsoft Entourage 2008 for OS X to Notre Dame’s Exchange Service

Students: If you need to configure Entourage for your ND Gmail account, please visit: oit.nd.edu/google/imap_pop.shtml.

These instructions are for ND Faculty and Staff that wish to configure their Entourage email client for ND’s Microsoft Exchange.

1) Open Entourage and from the Entourage menu select Account Settings

2) In the Account setup window, click on the small arrow next to New and select Exchange…

3) The Account Setup Assistant will display. Select the button for Configure Account Manually near the bottom of the window.

4) In the Edit Account window, enter the following information:
  • Account Name: Notre Dame
  • Name: Your Name as you would like it displayed (e.g., Anne Smith)
  • Email Address: netid@nd.edu (Use YOUR NetID, e.g., asmith@nd.edu)
  • Select Radio Button for: Use my account information
  • Account ID: netid (Use YOUR NetID, e.g., asmith)
  • Domain: nd.edu
  • Password: Your NetID password
  • Exchange Server: https://owa.nd.edu/exchange/netid@nd.edu (Use YOUR NetID, e.g., https://owa.nd.edu/exchange/asmith@nd.edu)
  • Ensure the check box is selected for: This DAV service requires a secure connection (SSL)

5) Next, click on the Advanced tab near the top. Fill in the following information:

  • Public folders server: autodiscover.nd.edu/public
  • CHECK the box for This DAV service requires a secure connection (SSL)

6) Click OK to continue.

7) The Accounts windows will now be displayed with the newly added “Notre Dame (Exchange)” Account. To ensure the Notre Dame Exchange account is your default account, select the account and click the button on the top right for Make Default if available. (If it is grayed out, the account is already your Default Account.) Click the red X to close the Accounts window.

8) The main Entourage window will be displayed and Entourage will begin downloading your email, calendar, and contacts. Please allow Entourage to finish downloading all its data from the server. This progress will be displayed in the bottom right of the window as it continues to download data.

9) The Entourage client is now configured to access Exchange services including Notre Dame email, calendar, and contacts. 

Now, when you login to your email in Entourage, you will need to sign in with your username as netid@nd.edu (e.g., asmith@nd.edu) and your Notre Dame password.

You should now be able to access your Notre Dame email on Exchange.

You may also want to configure Entourage to search the Notre Dame directory so that you can easily find email addresses and contact information for anyone at Notre Dame.

  1. In Entourage, go to the Tools menu and select Accounts > Directory Service > New.
  2. Use the following settings:
    • Account Name:  ND Directory
    • LDAP Server:  directory.nd.edu
  3. Select the Options tab. 
    • For Search Base enter:
      o="University of Notre Dame",st=Indiana,c=US
  4. Close the Accounts dialog.
  5. Next, from the Entourage menu, select Preferences > Mail & News Preferences > Compose.
  6. Place a check in the box for Automatically check names when sending messages. 
  7. Close the Preferences dialog.
