When using Outlook configured for a MAPI connection to Exchange, you MUST login to Outlook with your username in the format of netid@nd.edu (e.g., asmith@nd.edu). Your normal Notre Dame password will continue to work as it has.
Outlook limits you to having 30 calendars listed in your calendar module or open. Please be aware, the more calendars you have listed or open, the slower your Outlook will load (even if the calendars are not all open).
No. Your e-mail address will remain the same.
No. You can continue to use the e-mail program that you prefer. However, calendaring will require you to use either Outlook (for Windows, Entourage (for Mac), or the Exchange web service OWA (for any computer platform). Outlook, Entourage, and OWA all provide both e-mail and calendaring, as well as a variety of other tools that you may find useful.
We have provided instructions for backing a backup of your personal folder files (.PST) here: http://oit.nd.edu/exchange/outlook2007_backup.shtml
Yes. Point your web browser to http://owa.nd.edu and login with your NetID and password.
The University has purchased a license for a product called Transend Migrator that can be used to migrate mail and address books from a variety of email programs into Outlook. Please contact your departmental support staff for assistance. If you do not have computer support in your department or college, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.
Go to your account settings and change the incoming mail server name from imap.nd.edu to imap-alt.nd.edu.
The Exchange Global Address List will only include entries for individuals who have migrated to Exchange until campus migration is complete. In the meantime, it is suggested that you setup an LDAP directory to search the entire Notre Dame directory. Instructions on how to configure an LDAP directory in OIT-supported email programs are available as part of the standard email program setup instructions.
In Outlook, go to the Tools menu, select Options, on the Mail Setup tab place a check mark in the box beside Send Immediately When Connected.
Unfortunately, the mail migration utility is unable to maintain any message flags you have currently set for messages in your mailboxes. Prior to migration, we recommend you take note of any messages you currently have flagged so that you can recreate those flags after migration.
Some Pine users report that they are unable to save messages to local folders after being moved to Exchange for email. We continue to investigate this issue, however the best workaround is to use another mail program until a solution is found.
Free/Busy time is only available if the contact is an official Exchange contact. Since you may have other email aliases for those same individuals in your addressbook, we suggest always choosing your meeting attendees from the Global Address List to ensure you can see their free/busy time.
Because Notre Dame provides more than one email alias for someone, if you invite someone to a meeting using one of their secondary email aliases, you may see them show up in the invitee list under that alias, as well as their primary Exchange alias, after they respond to a meeting. This also might happen if someone is forwarding their Notre Dame email to another address.
Departmental accounts that have not already been moved to Exchange will be migrated sometime during the spring semester. Additional communications will go out once the initial rollout to faculty and staff has completed.
Yes, Outlook has the ability to redirect messages, however it can only do this as part of a rule (similar to a filter). You can access this by viewing a message, and going to Tools > Rules & Alerts...
When you moved to Exchange, if you use Outlook with a MAPI connection, Entourage with an Exchange connection, or OWA, you will only be able to send messages as the Notre Dame email alias that you have listed as your preferred email alias in the Notre Dame EDS. For most lists, you are probably only subscribed as one of your email aliases, and since that alias may not match what is currently listed as your preferred email alias in the EDS, you may have trouble posting to some of the lists you are subscribed to. To resolve this problem, you can adjust your EDS preferred email alias (the address you will use to send messages in Exchange) by following these instructions: Please note that it will take one full business day for this change to take effect.
1) Sign in to eds.nd.edu/login with your NetID and password. Your personal directory entry will be displayed.
2) Click the Email Options button near the top of the page.
3) From the Select Preferred Email Address section, choose the Notre Dame email alias that you prefer to use under the Select the preferred assigned University address. Remember, this is the address you will send mail from in Exchange, so making it match the address you use to subscribe to LISTSERV lists will resolve the problem with posting to those lists.
4) Click the Save Changes button near the top right of the page.
5) You will return to your personal directory entry. Click the Logout button near the top-left of the page.
