Importing the ND Administrative Calendar into Your Exchange Calendar
Updated: August 27, 2009
So that you can have official University holidays, key academic dates, and other special University days of note in your Exchange calendar, we've provided the following instructions for Outlook and Entourage. Please note: If you only use OWA, you will need to manually add the University calendar to your own calendar since OWA does not provide a way to import the University holidays.
Please note: The official academic calendar is managed by the Office of the Registrar. The calendar provided on this page is NOT the official academic calendar.
Outlook
Entourage
iCal (Snow Leopard)
Importing the ND Calendar Using Outlook
- Download the ND Calendar to your local computer by right-clicking on the nd2009cal.ics or the nd2010cal.ics file link and choose Save Target As or Save Link As. Make sure to take note of where you save the file! The Desktop is often a good place so that you can easily find it later.
- Login to Outlook with your Notre Dame email address and password.
- From the File menu, select Import and Export...
- From the Import and Export Wizard, select Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs). Then click Next.
- In the Browse window that appears, navigate to the where you saved the nd2009cal.ics file earlier, select the file, and click OK.

- You will be prompted with a decision to import this calendar into a new calendar or to import it as items in your calendar. Select the Option that you prefer.
- Open as New: This option will import the Notre Dame calendar into a SEPARATE calendar in Outlook, and University holidays will not show on your regular Exchange calendar. You will show as available for meetings on University holidays.
- Import: This option will import the Notre Dame calendar into your primary Exchange calendar so that University holidays are shown on your main calendar and shows you as Out of the Office on University holidays, but place day events on your calendar without marking you Out of the Office for days of note (e.g., the start of classes or Spring Break).
- If you chose Open as New, the Notre Dame calendar will open as a separate calendar.
If you chose Import, the Notre Dame calendar events will be shown on your primary Exchange calendar.
