Integrated Calendaring & E-mail with Exchange
Updated: May 6, 2008
What is Exchange?
Exchange will replace the current e-mail service and CorporateTime calendaring. Exchange offers fast, reliable e-mail and calendaring, an easy-to-use and feature-rich web interface, support for a wide variety of e-mail programs and operating systems, and excellent support for mobile devices.
Why do we need a new calendaring & e-mail system?
Several campus-wide OIT customer satisfaction surveys along with many discussions with various groups on campus showed a decline in the campus' satisfaction with the current e-mail and calendar service. In addition to this, campus experienced significant problems with CorporateTime over the last few years, and our current e-mail system provider will no longer support the current system as of December 31, 2008. Together all of these things made finding a better e-mail and calendaring solution imperative.
How did you select Exchange?
The OIT has worked diligently to understand the needs of campus by meeting with a variety of groups, including representatives from the Mendoza College of Business, the Law School, Student Affairs, the Main Building, and the College of Engineering, to develop a list of requirements and needs for e-mail and calendaring at Notre Dame. Over 2,000 CorporateTime users were also surveyed. The results of those meetings and surveys became the requirements used to evaluate a variety of e-mail and calendar solutions. After reviewing several alternatives, the University selected Microsoft Exchange for faculty and staff.
When will we move to Exchange?
We will provide more detailed information about Exchange throughout the summer and fall as we work with campus to finalize a migration strategy.
Will my e-mail address change when we move to Exchange?

Will I have to use Outlook for e-mail when we move to Exchange?
