Accessing your Notre Dame Exchange Email, Contacts, & Calendar on your iPhone
Important Notes Before You Start
Note: The OIT strongly recommends that you configure your smartphone to require a passcode in order to access the phone if you use your smartphone to access or read any University information.
You MUST be using iPhone v.2.0 software or higher in order to access Exchange. If you need to update your software, connect your iPhone to your computer and use iTunes to update the iPhone software to the latest version.
Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, if you choose to synchronize your Exchange contacts and calendar, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is OVERWRITTEN. Additionally, iTunes will no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services.
Prior to configuring your iPhone for Exchange, please make sure you BACKUP ALL DATA ON YOUR IPHONE, INCLUDING CONTACTS!Apple provides instructions on backing up and restoring your iPhone HERE.
- To add your Exchange account to your iPhone or iPod touch, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then Add Account, then Microsoft Exchange. Note, you can configure only one Exchange account per device.
- On the next screen, enter the following configuration information:
- Email: netid@nd.edu (e.g., asmith@nd.edu)
- Username: netid@nd.edu (e.g., asmith@nd.edu)
- Password: Your Notre Dame password
- Description: however you want to describe this account (e.g., ND Exchange).
- Your iPhone (or iPod touch) will now try to locate your Exchange server using Microsoft's Autodiscovery service. Confirm the settings when presented.
- Choose which type(s) of data you would like to synchronize: Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. Note that by default, only 3 days' worth of email is synchronized. To synchronize more, go into Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your Exchange account, and tap on Mail days to sync. Tap Save to save the settings and begin receiving Exchange data. (Note: Your Exchange calendar is not CorporateTime calendar information! Also,if you choose to synchronize Exchange contacts and calendar, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is OVERWRITTEN. )
Now you can check your email as you normally would.
