Connecting Apple Mail, iCal, & Address Book in Snow Leopard to Notre Dame’s Exchange Service

Students: If you need to configure Apple Mail for your ND Gmail account, please visit: oit.nd.edu/google/imap_pop.shtml.

These instructions are for ND Faculty and Staff that wish to configure their Apple Mail, iCal, and Address Book in Snow Leopard for ND’s Microsoft Exchange.

Note: If you previously had Mail configured to access your Notre Dame email using an IMAP or POP connection, we recommend removing that account configuration first.

1. Launch Mail. You will be prompted for your name, your Notre Dame email address, and your Notre Dame password. (If you are not prompted for your name, email address, and email password, go to the Mail menu and select Preferences. Then choose the Accounts category, and click the + button to add your Notre Dame account.)
   
2. Click Continue. It may take a few minutes to retrieve your account information from Exchange.
3. Once the setup is configured, you'll get an account summary page. Make sure the check the boxes for Address Book contacts and iCal calendars are checked. Click Create to continue.
   
4. If you are not already in the Preferences dialog in Mail, go to the Mail menu, select Preferences, and choose the Accounts category. Select your Notre Dame Exchange account, and then view the Account Information tab.
5. The setup defaults to an ice-cas-p#.ice.nd.edu internal server setting, and to autodiscover.nd.edu for the external server. To improve performance, change both the internal and external server addresses to: owa.nd.edu
   
6. Close the Preferences window.
7. Launch iCal.
8. Go to the iCal menu, select Preferences, and choose the Accounts category. Select your Notre Dame Exchange account, and then click on the Server Settings tab.
9. The setup defaults to an ice-cas-p#.ice.nd.edu internal server setting, and to autodiscover.nd.edu for the external server. To improve performance, change both the internal and external server addresses to: owa.nd.edu
   
10. Close the Preferences window.
11. Launch Address Book.
12. Go to the Address Book menu, select Preferences, and choose the Accounts category. Select your Notre Dame Exchange account, and then click on the Server Settings tab.
13. The setup defaults to an ice-cas-p#.ice.nd.edu internal server setting, and to autodiscover.nd.edu for the external server. To improve performance, change both the internal and external server addresses to: owa.nd.edu
    
14. Close the Preferences window.

Please note: It may take some time for your email and calendar to load initially. The time it takes depends on a variety of factors, including the size of your mailbox(es), the amount of calendar data you have, and the speed of your network connection.

Now you can use Mail, iCal, and Address Book to connect to your Notre Dame Exchange account.
