Configuring Thunderbird for Exchange IMAP

Students: If you need to configure Thunderbird for your ND Gmail account, please visit: oit.nd.edu/google/imap_pop.shtml.

On Exchange, if you want to continue using Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Netscape or other Mozilla email programs with an IMAP connection, you will likely receive some errors, particularly when changing folders. To correct this problem, make the following change to your Notre Dame email account settings. These instructions are written for Thunderbird, however the same steps should work for SeaMonkey, Netscape or other Mozilla email programs.

  1. In Thunderbird, go to the Tools mentu and select Account Settings.
  2. Under your Notre Dame account, click on Server Settings.
  3. In the Server Name  field to the right, change the server name to: imap-alt.nd.edu

  4. Click OK to save the changes.

You can now continue using Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, or Netscape as you have, and you should no longer receive any errors.
