Migrating Your Email & Addressbook from Thunderbird/Seamonkey to Outlook

Migrating Messages

Before you begin, make sure Outlook is configured to have Personal Folder (local mail folders). If the folder list does not include a heading of Personal Folders, refer to documentation to create a Personal Folders file (.PST).

1) Launch Transend and chose the radio button for Message Folders when asked what you want to convert. Click Next.Transend Mozilla

2) In the Convert From field choose, Netscape/Mozilla and in the Convert To field, choose  Exchange/Outlook. Click Next.Transend Mozilla

 

3) In the Netscape/Mozilla Information dialog, click Browse and select the Local Mail folder in the user's Thunderbird or Mozilla Profile (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\ gh8kqdjn.default\Mail\Local Folders). Click Next.

4) In the Exchange/Outlook Information dialog, click Browse and select the Outlook.pst file into which the messages are to be imported. Usually, this will be in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook  and click Next.

5) Select the folders the user wishes to import and click Next.

6) Do not change any of the Miscellaneous Options. Click Start to begin the import. The messages will be imported and you will receive a summary report when complete.

7) The imported messages will appear in subfolder in Outlook's Personal Folders called Netscape Folders.

Migrating Addresses

Before you begin, make sure Outlook is configured to have Personal Folder (local mail folders). If the folder liost does not include a heading of Personal Folders, refer to documentation to create a Personal Folders file (.PST).

Determine whether or not the user has addresses store in the address book.

In Thunderbird, go to Tools > Address Book  and in Seamonkey, go to Window > Address Book and look to see if there are addresses stored there. If the user has addresses in her/his address book, you may import them with Transend Migrator using the following instructions.

1) Launch Transend and chose the radion button for Address Books when asked what you want to convert. Click Next.

2) In the Convert From field, select  Netscape/Mozilla and in the Convert To field, choose Exch/Outlook Contacts. Click Next.

3) In the Netscape/Mozilla Information dialog, click the Browse button and browse to the user's Thunderbird or Seamonkey profile (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\h6eotvtt.slt). From the Files of type drop-down, choose Version 6+ address book (*.mab). If the user has only one Mozila address book, the file will be named abook.mab. Select this file and click Open.

4) Now, click Next and click Browse to select the Outlook.pst file into which you will be importing the contacts (give example of path). There is no need to fill in the Password or Contact Folder fields. Click Start to begin the import.

5) You will receive an informaiton window indicating how many contacts were imported. Click OK.

6) Open Outlook and go to to Contacts folder in Personal Folders to verify that the contacts were successfully imported. They can be moved to the Exchange Contacts folder by selecting them all (Ctrl+A) and dragging them to the Contacts folder under the Mailbox - User Name heading.
