UPDATE ON EXCHANGE PERFORMANCE

We know during the first few days of this week that Exchange performance was slow.  The OIT has a Microsoft engineer onsite that is helping us tweak the Exchange environment to ensure optimal performance - some of these changes have already taken effect, and you should notice that performance has improved. 

If you experience slowness or any other problems using Exchange (for calendaring or email), please immediately contact your departmental IT support staff or the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.  We are dedicated to making Exchange a better, faster environment than our previous email and calendaring systems.

 

UPDATE ON RESOURCES

This week, we started contacting resource owners to identify who needs to be delegates or manage resources in Exchange.  The OIT must setup those permissions on the server, after which, you will receive information on how to manage any resources that you own or are a delegate for.  Until then, if you need to schedule a resource for a meeting, please follow the instructions posted on the OIT Exchange web site at: http://oit.nd.edu/exchange/invitingresources.shtml

 

WHAT ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENTAL ACCOUNTS?

The analysis of over 3200 departmental accounts that remain on the legacy mail infrastructure started on Wednesday, January 14.  We expect to migrate these accounts to the Exchange environment over the next eight to twelve weeks, and to do the migration in logical groups.  Individual account owners will be notified when their account will be moved.

 

ADDING THE NOTRE DAME HOLIDAY & ACADEMIC CALENDAR TO YOUR EXCHANGE CALENDAR

Want to make sure you're marked as out of the office on official Notre Dame holidays?  Want to know when classes start and end, or when Spring Break for students is scheduled?  Make sure you import the Notre Dame calendar into your Exchange calendar by following the instructions at: http://oit.nd.edu/exchange/holidays.shtml

 

REMINDER: ARCHIVE YOUR OLD CORPORATETIME CALENDAR

Don't forget!  CorporateTime will eventually be turned off, so if you want to save your calendar information from prior to August 1, 2007, you can follow the instructions at: http://oit.nd.edu/exchange/importoldctime.shtml

We will send more reminders once the University sets the date to turn CorporateTime off.

 

ENTOURAGE & DAY EVENTS

Entourage users:  Remember that when you create a day event, the default setting marks that time as "busy."  If you want to send out reminders to other people or mark a special day, and you do not want to block your entire day for scheduling, you'll need to change that Show Time As option to "free."

 

ENTOURAGE & SAVING CHANGES TO MEETINGS

Entourage users:  When you make changes to a meeting, remember that you must send an update to the meeting invitees in order for that change to take effect on their calendars.  This is the same process as in Outlook, OWA and OWA Lite.

 

TRAINING

We've scheduled more Outlook calendaring classes, which are available for registration at http://endeavor.nd.edu.  We're working on adding more Entourage classes as well...watch future updates for registration information about Entourage classes.  If you have questions about the classes, please contact OIT's Training department at training@nd.edu or 1-7227.
