View More Than One Account in Exchange

Updated: August 28, 2009

In Exchange, you can view another account that you own (such as a departmental account or a resource). Steps to do this are slightly different than in other systems.

Outlook
Entourage
iCal (Snow Leopard)
OWA Premium (with IE)

Please note: You can not view more than one account using OWA Light (using non-IE browsers).

View More Than One Account in Outlook

In order for these instructions to work, your regular Exchange account must be granted ownership over the secondary account(s) by an OIT Exchange administrator.

  1. Login to Outlook using your Notre Dame email address and password.
  2. Go to the Tools menu and select Account Settings...
  3. Highlight you Notre Dame Exchange account and click Change...
  4. Click on the More Settings... button.
  5. From the Advanced tab, click the Add... button.
    Outlook Add Account
  6. Type in the email address for the departmental account or resource that you own. (e.g., ndoit@nd.edu)
    Then click OK.
    Outlook Add Account
  7. You'll return to the Advanced tab, and you will see that account listed in the "Open these additional mailboxes" list. Click OK. Now that account should be listed along the left side of the email, calendars, and folders modules of Outlook. (Please note: It may take a few minutes for it to load the first time.)

If you have questions, please contact your departmental IT support staff or the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.

View More Than One Account in Entourage

In order for these instructions to work, your regular Exchange account must be granted ownership over the secondary account(s) by an OIT Exchange administrator.

Viewing another account in Entourage is done the same way you open someone else's calendar in Entourage. Please follow these same instructions for doing so.

If you have questions, please contact your departmental IT support staff or the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.

View More Than One Account in iCal (Snow Leopard)

Note: Accessing another account in iCal is configured almost identically to setting up your account initially. After setting up an Exchange account in Mail, the Setup Assistant will ask if you would like to set up iCal and Address Book as well. It is recommended that you do this and follow these steps closely to make sure each program functions correctly. Adding a second Exchange account may significantly slow the performance of Mail and iCal.

  1. Launch Mail. Go to the Mail menu and select Preferences. Then choose the Accounts category, and click the + button to add your Notre Dame account. You will be prompted for the name of the other account, the Notre Dame email address of the other account, and the Notre Dame password for the other account .
    Exchange account setup
  2. Click Continue. It may take a few minutes to retrieve your account information from Exchange.
  3. Once the setup is configured, you'll get an account summary page. Make sure to check the boxes for Address Book contacts and iCal calendars. Click Create to continue.
    Exchange account setup
  4. If you are not already in the Preferences dialog in Mail, go to the Mail menu, select Preferences, and choose the Account tab.
  5. Select the secondary Exchange account from the list of accounts. To improve performance, make sure that both the internal and external server addresses are set to: autodiscover.nd.edu
    Exchange account setup
  6. Exit the Preferences.
  7. Launch iCal.
  8. Go to the iCal menu, select Preferences, and choose the Account tab.
  9. Select the secondary Exchange account from the list of accounts. To improve performance, make sure that both the internal and external server addresses are set to: autodiscover.nd.edu
    Exchange account setup
  10. Exit the Preferences.
  11. Launch Address Book.
  12. Go to the Address Book menu, select Preferences, and choose the Account tab.
  13. Select the secondary Exchange account from the list of accounts. To improve performance, make sure that both the internal and external server addresses are set to: autodiscover.nd.edu
    Exchange account setup
  14. Exit the Preferences.

Now you can use Mail, iCal, and Address Book to connect to another Notre Dame Exchange account besides your personal account.
