Frequently Asked Questions about Passwords
My password quit working, what do I do?
I am away from ND and need my password reset, what do I do?
How do I make my computer password the same as my email password?
Q) My password quit working, what do I do?
A) The ND Strong Password Standard requires all passwords be changed every 180 days. Email notices are sent as that deadline approaches, and if the password is not changed, it will cease to work for all ND services (i.e. webmail, InsideND, Webfile). However, your expired password will still work to establish a new password if you know what the expired password is. To select a new password:
1. Open a browser window (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari)
2. Go to https://password.nd.edu
3. Type your NetID in the NetID field.
4. Type in your expired password in the Password field.
5. Type a new password in the New Password field.
6. Type the new password again in the Confirm Password field.
7. Click on the Change Password button.
If you do not remember what the expired password is, you will need to visit the OIT Help Desk at 128 DeBartolo Hall and provide a photo ID to request your password be reset.
Q) I am away from ND and need my password reset, what do I do?
A) If you are off campus but in the local area, visit the OIT Help Desk at 128 DeBartolo Hall with a photo ID for a password reset. If you are outside the Michiana area, please contact the OIT Help Desk by telephone (574-631-8111) to discuss alternatives to a personal visit to have your password reset. Note: You must be a current faculty, staff or student based on Human Resources or Registrar records for alternative options to be utilized.
