Installing OpenAFS With Kerberos 5

  1. Download the OpenAFS installer and save it to your desktop
  2. WINDOWS VISTA: Right click the installer and choose "Run as administrator"

  3. If you have a previous version of OpenAFS it will be uninstalled and your computer will reboot. After the computer reboots, you will need to run the installer again by right clicking the installer on your desktop and choosing "Run as administrator"
  4. Close any open programs and click OK

  5. Click OK on the following window. The installation runs in the background and does NOT show a progress bar. When the installation is complete your computer will reboot.

  6. After your computer reboots, click the Start Button and search for "Launch OpenAFS" or click All Programs, open the OpenAFS folder and click "Launch OpenAFS"

  7. Type your in your NetID and password, leave Realm as ND.EDU, click OK

  8. To add your AFS home drive you first need to find where it's located by going to eds.nd.edu and searching for your NetID

  9. At the bottom of the page with your information click the link for your Attribute List

  10. About half way down the page look for the attribute "ndunixhomedir." To the right is the location of your AFS Home Directory.

  11. Keep this page open as you will need it for step 14
  12. Right click the gold padlock in the system tray beside the clock and choose Show Tokens

  13. Choose the Drive Letters tab and click Add

  14. Set the Drive Letter to H: and type the ndunixhomedir that you found in EDS (step 10 above) in the AFS Path field, in Submount use your NetID and click OK

  15. To map to the courseware folder, repeat the above process (Steps 12 - 13) to add a new drive, except this time set the Drive Letter to "I" and in the AFS Path type "\afs\nd.edu\access" and in Submount type "courseware" and click OK

  16. If you would also like the AFS root directory, follow the above steps and use the Drive Letter "J", in AFS Path type "\afs" and in Submount type "root"
