Disabling Airport Wireless in OS X

Disable Wireless
Enable Wireless

Most computers will automatically use wireless if it's available, even if you also have a wired connection plugged in. When using your wired connection, it's best to disable wireless for optimal performance. To Disable or Enable your Airport Wireless connection on OS X, follow these instructions:

Disable

airport icon

  1. Click on the Airport icon in the top right corner of your screen.
  2. And choose Turn AirPort Off.
    1. If you haven't used your wired connection before, you will need to launch a browser and register this connection the first time you use it. Your browser should automatically re-direct to the OIT’s Network Connection Registration Page. If this does not happen, go to: http://ncr.nd.edu (additional instructions can be found here.)

Enableairport on

When you want to switch to wireless:

  1. Click on the Airport icon again.
  2. And choose Turn Airport On.

If you have questions or problems, please call the OIT Help Desk at 631-8111.
