Connecting to the Notre Dame Network from Off-Campus

Faster Off-Campus Options

If you'd like a faster connection than dialing into a modem pool, the following services are available in South Bend. Please click on the link below for further details. These services are not supported by OIT.

Dial-Up Modem Pool Instructions

The Notre Dame modem pool has only 92 modems to provide all faculty, staff, and students with free off-campus access, and the University currently has no plan to expand the modem pool. Many users find that due to the frequent busy signals, and slow access through a modem pool, it is well worth the small monthly fee for cable broadband or DSL service.

The phone number for the modem pool is 631-4792.  You will be required to enter your NetID and password to establish a connection.  Please note: If your operating system is not listed below, the OIT does not offer support for it to connect to the ND dial-up system.

VPN

In order to access some services at Notre Dame, faculty or staff may be required to use a VPN connection if you use a third-party network like a cable broadband or DSL service. Information on establishing a VPN connection can be found here.
