    Disabling Wireless in Windows XP Professional

    Disable Wireless
    Enable Wireless

    Most Windows computers will automatically use wireless if it's available, even if you also have a wired connection plugged in. When using your wired connection, it's best to disable wireless for optimal performance. Follow these instructions to Disable or Enable your wireless connection.

    Disable

    1. Click Start and go to Control Panel

    (Note: if your Control Panel doesn’t look like this, click Switch to Classic View on the left side)

    1. Double click on Network Connections
    2. Right Click on Wireless Network Connection and choose Disable
      1. If you've not used your wired connection before, you will need to launch a browser and register this connection the first time you use it. Your browser should automatically re-direct to the OIT’s Network Connection Registration Page. If this does not happen, go to: http://nas-ib-1.nm.nd.edu (additional instructions can be found here).

    Enable

    When you want to switch to wireless, repeat the process by:

    1. Clicking Start and going to Control Panel
    2. Double click on Network Connections
    3. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection and
    4. Choose Enable
