Secure?Notre Dame's Zoned Network

The Zoned Network initiative, launched in 2008, provides added security for users of the campus network by segregating the campus network into distinct virtual networks for faculty, staff, students and guests. It also adds encryption capabilities to Notre Dame's wireless network, protecting the privacy and confidentiality of information you transmit using the ND-secure WiFi network.

UPDATE: As of 8/4/2009, all University residence halls and on-campus housing wired network connections have been migrated to the new Zoned Network. Users connecting to the wired network in these locations will be required to authenticate to the network once a semester beginning Fall 2009. Network Connection Instructions for Guests

Authorized guests of the University and legacy wireless devices that can not do 802.1X may connect to the wireless network by using the ND-guest wireless network SSID. You must sign-in via the web on the ND-guest network in order to access any network services.

Access to the guest network requires a guest ID and password. Guest IDs are issued by the OIT Help Desk upon the request of a member of the Notre Dame faculty or staff who provides information on the expected business use of the account and agrees to sponsor the account. Call the OIT Help Desk (574-631-8111) for additional information.

If you have questions about any of these initiatives, please contact your departmental IT support staff or call the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.
