OIT Gives to of Food Bank of Northern Indiana
12/22/2004
The OIT's 2004 food drive to benefit the St. Joseph County Food Bank was
a rousing success, according to Notre Dame CIO Gordon Wishon. In the roughly
two weeks of the drive, members of the OIT and friends contributed $1,635.
OIT employees Anne Kolaczyk and Toby Green presented cash and checks to
the Food Bank President and CEO Bill Carnegie on December 17.
Kolaczyk, who has managed the drive for the OIT Activity Committee for
the last several years, says this year's event was a substantial improvement
over previous drives.
She says, "During the first few years, we collected both food and money
and, though we brought in a lot of pounds of macaroni and cereal for the
size of our organization, we only filled up a few shelves in the Food
Bank s pantry. Switching to monetary donations," Kolaczyk explains, "gives
them (the Food Bank) the power to purchase what they really need and at
the reduced rates available to them."
"I'm proud of our staff; they really came through with donations this
year," Wishon says. "The Food Bank can do a lot of good with this $1,635."
