Changes to AFS Connections for Windows & Mac Users

6/18/2004

Many Windows and Mac users access AFS (also known as H: and I: drives, or NDAccess) using the Samba and AFP translators.  These translators will be discontinued on Monday, August 9, 2004 to provide more secure and reliable access to AFS.

Users have the following options to access shared file space now and in the future:

  • All users are encouraged to try WebFile.  WebFile is a program that allows access to files in AFS and the new NetFile shared file space via the web.  WebFile is located at: https://webfile.nd.edu.
  • Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Mac OS X users may change to the new NetFile shared file space.  Additional information and details on NetFile is available on the web at: http://oit.nd.edu/shared_file_space.

In addition to WebFile and NetFile, other instructions on how to access AFS through different methods are available on the web at: http://oit.nd.edu/shared_file_space

Mac OS 9 Users:  Due to these infrastructure changes, you will need to use WebFile to connect to AFS.

If you have additional questions or need assistance, please contact your departmental IT staff (e.g., ALCO, MCOB IT, Library DCNS, Law School IT, etc.) or the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.
