OIT Sponsors Faculty Internet2 Conference

The Notre Dame Office of Information Technologies in April hosted an An Afternoon with Internet2.
The faculty conference was part of Internet2 Day, and was sponsored by the OIT in cooperation with the Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning and the Internet2 consortium.
"The event was designed to be both an enjoyable and functional demonstration of how educators, including those at Notre Dame, are using the technologies made possible by Internet2," says Kevin Abbott, an educational technology specialist in the OIT's Educational Technologies and Services division who organized the Internet2 Day for Notre Dame.
Attendees learned how one Notre Dame professor uses Internet2 to conduct a cross-cultural class in two languages, in real time and on two continents. There also was a demonstration on the remote control of scientific instruments over Internet2. And in addition to a fare of food and beverages, Notre Dame faculty members were treated to a dual live musical performance coordinated live over Internet2 by musicians (and sisters) Carolyn Plummer from Notre Dame and Kathryn Plummer at Vanderbilt.
On Thursday, April 7, Internet2 representatives Ann Doyle (arts and humanities) and Charles Yun (science and engineering) hosted private consultations on the use of Internet2 resources in classrooms and other learning environments.
