Phishing! Don't take the bait!
Not sure what Phishing is? check out our FAQ!
Over the past few days many Notre Dame e-mail users have received yet another HOAX e-mail asking them to reply with their NetID and password or their account will be deactivated. Don't take the bait!
You should NEVER provide ANYONE with your password, Social Security Number, credit card number or other sensitive information by e-mail, as e-mail messages travel over the Internet in an insecure manner. Notre Dame will NEVER request this information from you via e-mail.
If you received this e-mail, or a similar one, it is imperative that you do not reply with any sensitive information. If you think a request for
your personal information might be legitimate, contact the department or institution, using its officially published phone number (either found in the phone book or by searching for its website online). Never use the contact information found in an e-mail that you think may be suspicious, or click on any links found in the message.
You can review more information about e-mail phishing at oit.nd.edu/email/phishingfaq.shtml and information about identity theft at secure.nd.edu. If you have additional questions, please contact your departmental IT support or the OIT Help Desk (631-8111).
