Warning! - IRS Scams
Many individuals are reporting receipt of an email message advising them
they are eligible for an IRS refund, or with an attachment indicating some type of problem with their return. Do not be deceived! This is yet
another scam attempting to harvest your personal information
and potentially steal your identity when you visit the web link in the
email and provide the requested information. Any attachments could contain malware that could affect the operation of your computer if opened, and risk exposure or loss of your data.
The IRS does NOT use e-mail to initiate contact with taxpayers about
issues related to their accounts. The IRS has excellent information
about this type of scam, and how you can protect yourself, posted at http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=136324,00.html or http://www.irs.gov/privacy/article/0,,id=179820,00.html.
If you have additional questions, please contact your departmental IT
staff or the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111 (oithelp@nd.edu).
