Shared File Space

Shared Folder iconA centrally managed, shared file system for both personal and institutional use, IFS (Institutional File Space) at Notre Dame consists of two major components: NetFile which primarily supports the Windows and Mac community and AFS (Andrew File System) which primarily supports the Unix community.

The University provides every student, faculty, and staff member with their own personal IFS space which is automatically backed-up nightly by the OIT. IFS provides reliable, convenient, and secure access to files, and is most useful when you need to store files in a space that you can access from multiple locations or if you need to share files with others. Currently, the University Courseware system is also stored in IFS.
