Shared File Space
A
centrally managed, shared file system for both personal and institutional
use, IFS (Institutional File Space) at Notre Dame consists of two major
components: NetFile which primarily supports the Windows and Mac community
and AFS (Andrew File System) which primarily supports the Unix community.
The University provides every student, faculty, and staff member with their own personal IFS space which is automatically backed-up nightly by the OIT. IFS provides reliable, convenient, and secure access to files, and is most useful when you need to store files in a space that you can access from multiple locations or if you need to share files with others. Currently, the University Courseware system is also stored in IFS.
Connect to Shared File Space
- WebFile (Fast, Easy, Secure, & Versatile!) -- provides access to NetFile, AFS, and Courseware all in a convenient Web interface.
NetFile
- Migrate from AFS to NetFile
- Map a Direct Drive on Windows 2000 & XP to NetFile (On-Campus Use Only)
- Map a Drive to Someone Else's NetFile Space On Windows 2000 & XP (On-Campus Use Only)
- Map a Volume on Mac OS X to NetFile to Your Own or Someone Else's Space Using DAVE (On-Campus Use Only)
- Important Note for Mac OS X Users: The OIT does not support mapping a volume to NetFile using the internal Mac OS X clients older than Leopard. Upgrades and maintenance to NetFile may break the ability for users to natively map a volume to NetFile, and OIT strongly recommends using the DAVE client for the most reliable service.
