Migrate from AFS to NetFile
- Login to WebFile. This will allow you to move or copy all of your files at once. By default, when you login to WebFile it opens your AFS home directory.
- Click on Select All in the right upper
pane. This will put a check mark next to each file and folder. If you
don't want to move or copy all of your files, just place a check in
the box next to the ones you want to move.
Note: Files or folders beginning with a dot (.) typically hold settings for programs in Unix. You may uncheck those dot (.) files and folders so that they will not be copied/moved to NetFile.
- Select Move or Copy.
- Move moves your files from AFS to NetFile (deleting them from AFS).
- Copy makes copies of your files and puts them in NetFile, so you will have files in both AFS and NetFile.
- Under Specify a destination folder... choose NetFile, then click Move or Copy.
Note: It is recommended that you Copy first when migrating from AFS to NetFile. After Copy is successfully completed, you may delete all unneeded files and folders on your AFS space.
Change Website to NetFile:
To change your website to point at your NetFile www folder, you will need to move your webpage to the www folder in NetFile using the instructions above. Then, you will need to change the alias for your website from AFS to NetFile. To do so:
- Login to EDS with your NetID at password at: http://eds.nd.edu/login
- Click on the Edit button at the top left of the screen.
- Scroll down to the Webpage option and choose: /netfile/w01/NetID/www from the list.
- Scroll back to the top and choose Save Changes.
This has changed the default location for your website from AFS to NetFile. If you have additional questions or problems, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.
