Firefox Management

Isaac Holmes discussed Firefox management via GPO. He explained that .adm files are now included that allow management via GPO of all settings.

 

Green Initiative

Isaac Holmes reported the results of the last meeting witht the Office of Sustainability. It was decided at the meeting to back off from the previous recommendation that computers be powered-down during non-working hours. Instead, the policy will state that computers be put in in sleep mode. By using this approach, security and other updates can be configured to install at night by a scheduled task to wake the machine.

Will Bruckert asked if we could get networking to turn on Wake-On-LAN routing.

Mcafee and other updates would need to be scheduled during wake period.

Dave Mastic suggested that changes to policy happen before July 1 so it would be in place before faculty members return.

Sharon Scucs suggested that the policy specify a 2-hr inactivity timeframe before auto-sleep.

The Office of Sustainability is looking to the OIT and the Platform Teams to propose a policy. Windows team can agree on Windows computer settings.
