Publishing a Course/Class Web Site

*** Please note: Sensitive information (such as social security numbers, credit card data, FERPA protected data, or HIPAA protected data) should NEVER be published on the web!!!!! ***

Faculty and their assistant have several choices that may be appropriate for publishing a course/class web site. Each option has its own benefits. A brief overview of the functionality that each option offers is located below.

  • Concourse (formerly WebCT Vista) - Vista is a web-based system accessible from any Internet connection that provides content and tools for structure, interactivity, and management of a course. It includes the following features:
    • Publishing syllabi
    • Managing and posting grades
    • Providing a list of web links
    • Distributing files (e.g., PowerPoint, PDF, etc.)
    • Create, administer, and grade online quizzes
    • Online discussions
    • Conduct a survey
    • Electronic submission of assignments
  • Courseware in AFS (e.g., I: drive) - All courseware folders are accessible via the web from a Notre Dame network connection.
    • Publishing syllabi
    • Distributing files (e.g., PowerPoint, PDF, etc.)
    • Electronic submission of assignments
  • Personal or Departmental web site - Personal or departmental web sites can be open to the entire Internet or secured to a select group of people and/or network location.
    • Publishing syllabi
    • Distributing files (e.g., PowerPoint, PDF, etc.)
    • Providing a list of web links
    • Conduct a survey
