Windows 7 Logo

Microsoft releases Windows 7 to the public on Thursday, October 22. We'll post information about support for Windows 7 here as we continue to test this new operating system. Check back for updates.

Faculty & Staff: The OIT strongly recommends that you WAIT to upgrade we work with campus IT staff to complete testing of Notre Dame IT services and software.

Students: The OIT can currently provide some support for Windows 7, however before you upgrade, we want to make you aware of the issues listed below.

Known Issues with Windows 7 (updated October 21, 2009 )

  • many software and hardware vendors have not released Windows 7 compatible tools
  • the Computer Store does not currently have Windows 7 in stock, however students will be able to purchase Windows 7 from the Computer Store at prices much lower than commercial stores (like Best Buy or Amazon) soon
  • support for 64-bit Windows 7 depends on the resources that software vendors make available
