Current Known Issues with Windows Vista

This is a list of ONLY the current known issues that the OIT has identified. Please note that this list is not comprehensive and will be updated as new information is received. In most cases, you'll want to be sure you have the latest version of each application, as older versions may not be Vista-compatible. For software and hardware that is not widely-used and supported on campus, please check with the vendor to verify that they support their product on Windows Vista.

• Adobe Premiere CS2 - Unable to launch this program after installation.
• AIM v. 6.0.28.1 - Security warnings may display depending on the advertisements in the Buddy List.
• CPS eInstruction - Does not install properly due to compatibility issues.
• DBMS/Copy - The vendor has not yet provided a version that is Vista compatible.
• Endnote v.8.0.2 - Some templates and macros do not appear to work in Office 2003 on Vista.
• Fireworks 8 - Drops out of Aero mode and runs in Classic view.
• iTunes/iPod - Apple won't support some older iPods with Vista. Your computer may hang during updates, causing loss of stored materials.
• Oracle 10g workstation client is not supported on Vista and will result in errors if installation is attempted.
• PDF Creator - The vendor has not yet provided a version that is Vista compatible.
• Photoshop CS 9.0.2 - The installer distributed on the OIT Software Download site will not work on Vista, stating the user does not have Administrative privileges.
• RealPlayer v.10.5 not supported by the vendor.
• SAS - The vendor has not yet provided a version that is Vista compatible.
• SeaMonkey email - when prompted to make default client, it hangs.
• SketchUp Pro 5.0.260 - You must run the installer "as Administrator."
• SPSS Data Entry/Data Builder - The vendor has not yet provided a version that is Vista compatible.
• Trillian v. 3 - Runs in Vista Basic mode. Will not run in Vista Aero mode unless configuration changes are made. Asks for Quicktime support if not already installed.
• U3 - Does not install properly due to compatibility issues.
• Utimaco SafeGuard Easy - Vista-certified version not available at this time. Use Bitlocker which is included with Vista Ultimate & Enterprise versions instead.
• WinDVD 4 - Unable to launch this program after installation.

Notre Dame Specific Experiences

• When you are on the Notre Dame wireless network (NOMAD), multiple Nomad connections (Nomad 1, Nomad 2, Nomad 3, etc.) are added. You do not need to take any special action.
• If you attempt to connect to two different wireless networks with the same SSID (network name) but different network configurations, the second connection will not work. The configuration of each network must be identical, or the network names must be different.
