Minimum Computer Requirements for Windows Vista

Last updated: April 27, 2009 2:07 PM

Microsoft has published minimum requirements for a computer to run Windows Vista. According to initial testing results, the Notre Dame Windows Vista testing team recommends the following MINIMUM computer specifications to upgrade a computer to Windows Vista:

  • at least a 2.0 GHz Pentium 4 (or compatible) processor
  • 1 GB of RAM or higher
  • 80 GB hard disk or higher
  • 64 MB video RAM or higher

Note! When running Windows Vista, the more RAM and video RAM you have available, the better your experience will be.

Also, Microsoft has published a Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to help you decide if your computer is ready to run Windows Vista.
