Windows Vista Update - 1/26/07

Starting January 30th, Microsoft Windows Vista will be available from a number of vendors, including stores such as Best Buy and Circuit City.

The OIT recommends that campus computer users NOT install Vista on their computers until we have completed testing, and have announced our support of Microsoft’s new operating system.  So far, tests conducted by the OIT staff in conjunction with IT staff from across campus have revealed several Notre Dame computer services and applications that are not yet compatible with Windows Vista.

There is no firm estimate when Windows Vista will be available for departmental purchase or for individual purchase through the ND Computer Store. Pricing has yet to be determined as well.

NOTE: If you do decide to install Windows Vista on your computer at this time, you do so at your own risk. The OIT will NOT support your use of the new operating system until Vista has been tested and officially adopted for use at Notre Dame. We expect to announce a support plan for Windows Vista later this spring.

You can view our current progress at http://oit.nd.edu/windows.  If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact your departmental IT support staff or the OIT Help Desk at 574-631-8111.
