Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 3, those who use a University-owned computer running an older version of Windows 10 (i.e., Windows 10 v1909 or earlier), will begin seeing a daily pop-up message containing information about updating their operating system.
Office of Information Technologies (OIT) system administrators require this update because it will apply critical security patches to keep your computer’s operating system in compliance with Notre Dame security standards.
This upgrade takes an average of 2 hours to install, and the computer cannot be used until the installation is complete. You have the opportunity to install the Windows upgrade on your computer at a time that will not interfere with your work schedule prior to Wednesday, Aug. 10. Instructions for completing the upgrade prior to this date are available in this knowledge article.
The pop-up reminder about this upgrade will continue to appear ONLY on computers that need to be updated until the upgrade is installed. NOTE: If you do not see this pop-up on your computer, it may already have a current version of Windows 10 or 11 installed, OR it is not a University-owned or centrally managed computer. If you are unable to upgrade your computer’s operating system prior to Aug. 10, the appropriate Windows operating system will automatically be installed the next time you login to your computer on or after August 10.
