Zoom Security Requirement Postponed

Zoom Update

Zoom has postponed the required security enhancement originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27 until sometime in November. Once in place, any meeting that doesn't contain a passcode or waiting room will automatically be assigned a waiting room.

The OIT recommends you review your scheduled meetings without passcodes before November so you can update them. You can do so by logging into the Zoom web portal (zoom.nd.edu). These meetings are listed in the Meetings tab and indicated by a red exclamation point with a circle around it. Just follow these guidelines for adding a passcode or waiting room to those meetings:

  • Passcode—Add a passcode to the meeting and resend the calendar invitation to all participants.
  • Waiting Room—Enable the waiting room for the meeting. No further action is required.

For any meeting with a passcode or waiting room already assigned to it, no action is required.

Another part of this change also includes making a distinction between a passcode and password. A passcode is a unique numeric code that is assigned to your meeting. It is meant to be shared along with the meeting ID to provide access to invited meeting participants. The password is part of your login credentials that allows you to access the Zoom service, and should not be shared with anyone.
