AV Core Design Standards

The OIT recommends following these core design standards when adding technology to your space.  These standards work in conference rooms, classrooms, offices, or any kind of meeting spaces and can be customized to meet your specific needs.   

For each core standard listed below, a single display could be one flat panel monitor, LED wall-mounted screen or one projector with a screen.  You can also choose to include the following in any of these core standards:

  • Microphone(s) for voice reinforcement and/or conferencing
  • Installed upgraded speakers or a soundbar
  • USB camera(s) for conferencing
  • Wireless presentation technology
  • Lecture capture
  • Confidence monitor(s)

Core 0

Typically digital signage. Does not support local input sources.

Core 1

Includes a single display and an HDMI input plate on the wall directly below to connect a laptop or device you bring. Control is via the wall-mounted button panel. Sound is from the display's speakers.

Core 2

Includes a single display, a USB video camera, a tabletop conference/speakerphone which is an all-in-one device for: touchscreen control, microphone and sound.  The all-in-device also supports wireless and/or wired HDMI connections with a laptop or device that you bring.

Core 3

Includes a single display and an HDMI input plate located anywhere in the room. Control is via the wall-mounted button panel. Sound is via external speakers.

Core 4

Includes a single display, supports multiple input sources from a wide variety of devices, including laptops and tablets.  Equipment will be located in an AV rack, lectern, or credenza. Control is via a touchscreen. Sound is via external speakers.

Core 5

Includes two displays capable of showing different sources simultaneously. Supports multiple input sources from a wide variety of devices, including laptops and tablets.  Equipment will be located in an AV rack, lectern, or credenza. Control is via a touchscreen. Sound is via external speakers.

Core 6

Includes three displays capable of two simultaneous sources, multiple input sources from a wide variety of devices, including laptops and tablets. Equipment will be located in an AV rack, lectern, or credenza. Control is via a touchscreen. Sound is via external speakers.

Core 7

Custom designed AV system for the specialized needs of the space.
