Okta changes highlight improved security and simplify login

“Access Denied!” As cybercriminals continue to evolve their tactics, it’s important to update account security protocols to ensure your safety and peace of mind.

To improve security, and make your login experience easier, the OIT continuously evaluates improvements to the Okta sign in process.

Simple Change from “NetID” to “Username”

When prompted to login with Okta, you will now need to login with your Username (netID@nd.edu).

The number of consultants, guest instructors and external researchers who need access to specific Notre Dame services has increased, and this change makes it easier for us to offer secure authentication to everyone working with the University.

Select "Stay Signed In"

After logging in to Okta with your username, you will now be prompted with a new “keep me signed” in prompt.

By selecting "stay signed in" you will not have to use a second factor to sign into your account from that device for 30 days.

Choose Okta Verify as One of Your Enrolled Factors

Review what authentication factors you’ve enrolled in Okta and make sure one of them is Okta Verify. If you have chosen the phone or SMS (text) factors, it is recommended that you remove them and enroll other, stronger factors. Phone and SMS methods are less secure and can put your account at risk of being targeted by cybercriminals.

As we continue to navigate an increasingly digital world, the security of employee and University data continues to be a priority.
