It’s almost time to kick-off a new academic year. Here are some valuable teaching and learning resources and information to help instructors prepare for the fall semester.
Run the Eduroam Utility
Eduroam is the secure WiFi network at Notre Dame. To ensure you can connect to Eduroam, run setup utility on all devices you use on campus. You can do this from any location.
Instructions to run the Eduroam utility are available in this knowledge article.
NOTE: To run the utility on an iPhone or iPad, you must use the Safari browser. The utility will not work on iOS devices using the Chrome or Firefox browsers. If you have a laptop or Android device, you can use the Chrome browser.
Does Your Canvas Grade Scale Match Your Syllabus?
Canvas assumes a basic grade scale that may not match the one used in your department or class. If you use letter grades or display total grades in your course, make sure the little variances between an A- and B+ have been accounted for so you display an accurate grade to your students.
Request TAs for Canvas Through eForms
Students who are hired to assist faculty in grading and managing their courses must complete FERPA training before they can be added to Canvas. Use the Academic eForms to add students for this role to automate their completion of the training and addition to the course.
Use NameCoach to Record Your Name Pronunciation
Namecoach allows instructors and students to record the pronunciation of their name to share in every course site in which they are enrolled. It is tied to each user's personal account in Canvas. When instructors enable the tool in a published course site, students have access to each other’s name recordings.
Update Zoom Before Classes Begin
Login to Notre Dame's Zoom service so it can automatically update to version 6.5.7 (if necessary) before your first class. The update may take a minute or two to complete, then the Zoom service will launch.
Make sure Zoom is updated on all your University-owned managed devices, as well as any unmanaged or personal devices.
Zoom (ZAP) Meeting Links No Longer Created for Academic Courses
Zoom meetings are no longer automatically created for classroom instruction due to low faculty utilization.
However, those who still wish to create Zoom links for their classes are able to create them manually.
